Centre for Development of Teaching & Learning (CDTL) was established in 2009 and is committed to sharing ideas and insights on teaching for the advancement of learning leading to academic success both for the faculties and for the students.

Vision:

To be a centre of excellence for sharing good practices in faculty with teaching & learning and for motivating the faculty and students to adapt innovative teaching and learning methods by making use of the latest technology.

Mission:

To help advance cutting edge, evidence based, impactful teaching &learning practices in order to create and sustain an educational environment in which each student is cultivated to have self confidence and to create his/her own opportunities for acquiring essential knowledge and skill for their career prospects.

Objectives:

Enhance the quality of teaching at all levels and amongst young teachers.

Provide an opportunity for faculty members at all levels to adopt modern tools and technologies for better reach of the concept and functionalities to the students.

Provide a forum for research scholars in the art of writing for reporting the research processes, innovations and findings.

Introduce graduate–students’ learning by e-Resources and e-Tools.

Incubate Critical Thinking skills, Creative Skills, Problem based learning skills among students.

Strategies:

The Peer Tutoring Program is an important part of academic resources at PRIST. Peer tutoring is a program to help students who require additional assistance in academic subjects. Students are tutored by upper year students who have successfully completed the course.

Peer tutoring may be used to review/clarify material, fill gaps in preparation and background in a particular area.

A qualified undergraduate tutor may be available to any student who desires assistance to meet the demands of courses in which he/she is currently enrolled.

E-Tutoring is an online tutoring platform which allows tutors to work with students synchronously and asynchronously, answering questions in real time, or replying to questions and essay submissions that students have left for review and commentary.

Also, eTutoring provides academic support for traditional classes, online courses, and for distance learning students. eTutoring is available beyond the typically on-campus academic support centers’ hours and for students who cannot make it to campus. Students can also post questions that do not require immediate answers.

Peer review of teaching is a form of evaluation designed to provide feedback to instructors about teaching and learning. Peer review of teaching may be used as a way to help instructors improve teaching and learning in their courses.

In general, peer review is a collaborative process in which the instructor under review works closely with a colleague or group of colleagues to discuss his or her teaching. The format of a peer review will vary depending on its purpose. In some cases, colleagues may evaluate and discuss teaching materials and curriculum; in other cases, they may visit a class session to observe the teacher in action.

The peer-review process yields important information that can be combined with other sources to provide a comprehensive view of an individual’s teaching. Other materials that can be used in consort with peer review are student evaluations, administrator assessment, feedback on student work, or self-assessment documentation such as a teaching portfolio.
