ANTI-RAGGING COMMITTEE 

The Anti-ragging committee plays a critical role in maintaining a positive, respectful, and safe environment for all students in Ponnaiyah Ramajayam Institute of Science and Technology (PRIST) Deemed to be University.campus. The committee aims to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all students, free from harassments such as, bullying of new students (usually freshers) by their seniors. This can range from mild pranks to severe forms of physical and mental abuse.  

Objectives: 

The objectives of Anti-Ragging Committee are focused on ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all students by preventing, addressing, and taking appropriate action against any incidents of ragging. Here are the primary objectives of the committee: 

  1. Preventing Ragging: The core objective is to prevent any form of ragging or harassment by promoting a culture of mutual respect and understanding among students. This includes spreading awareness and educating students about the harmful effects of ragging. 
  2. Creating Awareness: The committee works to raise awareness about the negative impact of ragging on victims and the consequences for perpetrators. It organizes workshops, seminars, and campaigns to educate students, faculty, and staff about anti-ragging policies and their importance. 
  3. Providing Support to Victims: Ensuring that victims of ragging receive appropriate support, including counseling and mental health services, is a crucial objective. The committee ensures that victims can approach them without fear of retaliation and with complete confidentiality. 
  4. Ensuring a Safe and Welcoming Environment: The committee aims to create a safe, inclusive, and harassment-free environment for all students, especially freshers. It focuses on ensuring that the campus is a space where students can interact, learn, and grow without the fear of bullying or ragging. 
  5. Promoting Discipline: It ensures that ragging incidents are dealt with strictly and promptly, in accordance with institutional rules and legal provisions. The committee works in collaboration with the administration to take disciplinary actions against those who engage in ragging.
  6. Monitoring and Surveillance: The committee monitors the campus and hostel areas to identify and prevent any potential ragging activities. It may conduct surprise inspections and keep an eye on vulnerable spots within the campus. 
  7. Providing a Grievance Redressal Mechanism: A key objective is to set up a platform where students can confidentially report instances of ragging. This grievance redressal mechanism ensures that the complaints are handled impartially and swiftly. 
  8. Promoting Positive Student Relationships: The committee encourages interaction between seniors and juniors that is based on guidance, mentorship, and mutual respect rather than dominance or harassment. The objective is to foster a healthy, supportive, and collaborative campus culture. 
  9. Ensuring Legal Compliance: The anti-ragging committee ensures that the University adheres to national and state-level laws and regulations that prohibit ragging. It also works to ensure that the University’s anti-ragging policies comply with legal frameworks like the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines, All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and other state regulations. 
  10. Reviewing and Updating Policies: The committee regularly reviews and updates the institution’s anti-ragging policies and procedures to ensure they remain effective and in line with evolving standards and legal requirements.
